ADA staking on Sundial runs through the Sundial L2, giving you access to efficient staking with the security guarantees of the L1 settlement chain underneath. When you stake ADA on Sundial, your funds enter the L2 and are allocated to yield-generating instruments while the L2 continuously settles its state back to L1. Your earnings accumulate in ADA and are visible in the Portfolio tab of the dashboard.

Prerequisites

Before staking ADA, make sure you have:
  • An L1 wallet (Eternl, Lace, Typhon, Yoroi, GeroWallet, or NuFi) installed and connected to the Sundial dashboard. See Connect Your Wallet if you haven’t done this yet.
  • An ADA balance sufficient to cover your desired staking amount plus the L1 network transaction fee.
  • Testnet only: testnet sBTC claimed from the faucet. See Claim Testnet sBTC to get test tokens before staking on the testnet.

In the Sundial dashboard, click the Stake tab. In the chain selector, choose ADA. The staking interface loads with your available ADA balance and an amount input field.
3

Enter your staking amount

Type the amount of ADA you want to stake. The dashboard displays:
  • The estimated staking reward rate for the current period
  • The L1 network transaction fee for the deposit
  • Your remaining ADA balance after staking
Review these details before proceeding.
4

Approve the transaction in your wallet

Click Stake. Your wallet extension opens a transaction approval prompt showing the deposit details. Review the transaction and click Sign or Confirm to authorize it. The transaction is submitted to the Sundial L2 and settled on L1.
5

Monitor your position in the Portfolio tab

After the transaction confirms, open the Portfolio tab. Your staking position appears with:
  • Allocation — the amount of ADA currently staked
  • Monthly rewards estimate — projected earnings based on current yield rates
  • Accrued rewards — ADA earned since your last update
Earnings are denominated in ADA and update as the L2 processes reward distributions. To review past transactions, open the History tab from the dashboard navigation.
On the Sundial testnet, use testnet sBTC instead of real ADA. Claim testnet tokens from the Sundial faucet before attempting to stake. Testnet tokens have no monetary value.

Withdraw Staked ADA

When you are ready to withdraw your staked ADA, the funds move from the Sundial L2 back to your L1 wallet through the standard withdrawal process.
1

Open the Withdraw tab

In the Sundial dashboard, click the Withdraw tab. Your active staking positions appear with the available withdrawal amounts.
2

Enter the withdrawal amount

Enter the amount of ADA you want to withdraw, or click Max to withdraw your full position. The dashboard shows the estimated L1 network fee.
3

Submit the withdrawal

Click Withdraw and approve the transaction in your wallet. This creates a withdrawal order on the Sundial L2.
4

Wait for L2 settlement

L2 withdrawals go through a maturity window before funds are available on L1. This period allows the optimistic rollup’s fraud proof window to elapse, ensuring the withdrawal is valid against the finalized L2 state.Once your withdrawal reaches maturity, your ADA becomes claimable on L1 and your wallet balance updates automatically.
If you need your funds immediately, an active Facilitator can front your ADA on L1 right away for a small fee, while they wait out the maturity period on your behalf. See Withdraw Funds from Sundial for the accelerated withdrawal flow.
ADA staked on the Sundial L2 is subject to the L2 maturity window before it fully settles back to L1. This window is an inherent property of optimistic rollup security — it ensures the validity of all state transitions before they become final. The Withdraw guide covers the full withdrawal lifecycle in detail, including accelerated exits and the emergency escape hatch.
