Sundial has two distinct withdrawal paths depending on which asset you are moving. ADA withdrawals move your funds from the Sundial L2 back to your L1 wallet and go through a maturity window enforced by the optimistic rollup’s fraud proof mechanism. BTC withdrawals sweep your Bitcoin principal and yield from the on-chain timelock and escrow scripts back to your Bitcoin wallet after your staking deadline. Choose the path that matches your asset below.

ADA / L2 Withdrawals

When you withdraw ADA from the Sundial L2, your funds travel through the settlement queue and must reach maturity before they are available on L1. This maturity window is the fraud proof challenge period — it gives Watchers time to verify the withdrawal is valid against the finalized L2 state.

Standard Withdrawal

A standard withdrawal gives you full self-custody control with no additional fees beyond the L1 network transaction fee. You wait out the maturity window yourself.
1

Open the Withdraw tab

Navigate to the Sundial dashboard at sundialprotocol.com/dashboard and click the Withdraw tab. Your withdrawable L2 balances appear in the list.
2

Enter the withdrawal amount

Select the asset and enter the amount you want to withdraw, or click Max to withdraw your full available balance. The dashboard displays the L1 network fee and the estimated time until funds arrive on L1.
3

Submit the withdrawal order on L2

Click Withdraw and approve the transaction in your wallet extension. This submits a withdrawal order to the Sundial L2 block producer, who includes it in a block and posts it to the settlement queue on L1.
4

Wait for the block to reach maturity

Your withdrawal order is locked in the settlement queue. Once the block containing your withdrawal order has passed the challenge period without a successful fraud proof, it reaches maturity and your funds become claimable. You can monitor the status of your withdrawal in the Portfolio tab — it shows whether your withdrawal is pending, in the challenge window, or ready to claim.
5

Claim settled funds on L1

When your withdrawal reaches maturity, the Portfolio tab shows a Claim button next to the settled amount. Click Claim and approve the transaction in your wallet. Your ADA arrives in your L1 wallet.

Accelerated Withdrawal via Facilitators

If you need your ADA on L1 immediately, a Facilitator can front you the funds right away in exchange for a small service fee. The Facilitator then waits out the maturity window and collects the settled amount when it becomes available.
1

Check active Facilitators

From the Sundial dashboard, check the Network status panel to see which Facilitators are currently active and accepting requests. Each Facilitator may publish their own fee rate.
2

Request an accelerated withdrawal

In the Withdraw tab, select the Accelerated option. Choose an active Facilitator from the list. The dashboard shows the Facilitator’s fee and the net amount you will receive immediately on L1.
3

Pay the fee and receive funds

Approve the accelerated withdrawal transaction in your wallet. The Facilitator sends you the net ADA amount on L1 immediately. The Facilitator then holds your withdrawal order and claims the full settled amount from the state queue once the maturity window elapses.
Facilitator fees vary and are set by each Facilitator independently. Compare rates in the Network panel before committing to an accelerated withdrawal. For the full breakdown of how Facilitators work, see the Facilitators guide.

Escape Hatch (Emergency Exit)

If block production on the Sundial L2 stops and no Operator is producing new blocks, you can use the escape hatch to exit the L2 directly. The escape hatch lets you withdraw your funds to L1 without waiting for a Facilitator or a block producer to process your withdrawal order.
The escape hatch is an emergency measure and should only be used if the L2 is genuinely non-operational. Using it under normal conditions is unnecessary and will incur a higher transaction fee. If block production is active, use the standard or accelerated withdrawal path instead.
To use the escape hatch, navigate to WithdrawEmergency Exit in the dashboard, confirm the action, and approve the transaction in your wallet. The escape hatch transaction posts your exit directly to the L1 settlement contract, bypassing the normal block production flow.

BTC Withdrawals

BTC withdrawals apply to funds locked in Sundial’s BTC Locker protocol — your principal held in the timelock script and any yield distributed to that same address by the yield provider.

When You Can Withdraw

You can withdraw your BTC after your staking deadline has passed. The withdrawal transaction is enforced on-chain by OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY — Bitcoin nodes will reject the transaction if it is broadcast before the deadline.

Standard BTC Withdrawal

1

Open the Withdraw tab after your deadline

Navigate to DashboardWithdraw tab. Staking positions whose deadline has passed appear with a Withdraw button. Positions that have not yet reached their deadline are shown as locked.
2

Review the withdrawal details

The dashboard shows the total withdrawable amount, which includes:
  • Your original deposit (timelock UTXO)
  • Any yield distributed to the timelock address by the provider
  • Any remaining funds in the escrow UTXO (if the provider did not fully sweep it)
Confirm the destination address — funds are sent to the Bitcoin address registered at deposit time.
3

Sign and broadcast the withdrawal PSBT

Click Withdraw. Your Bitcoin wallet presents the withdrawal PSBT for review. This single transaction spends both the timelock UTXO and any remaining escrow UTXO simultaneously. Sign and broadcast the transaction from your wallet.
Withdraw promptly after your deadline. There is a brief window after the deadline during which both you and the yield provider can independently spend the escrow UTXO via the post-deadline reclaim path. Initiating your withdrawal as soon as the deadline passes eliminates any race condition risk.

Minimum Amounts and Fees

Both withdrawal types require a minimum amount sufficient to cover transaction fees:
  • ADA withdrawals require enough ADA to pay the L1 network fee for the claim transaction. Amounts below the network fee cannot be submitted.
  • BTC withdrawals require enough BTC to cover the Bitcoin network fee. The fee estimate is shown in the dashboard before you sign.
Very small staking positions may not be economically viable to withdraw if the fee exceeds the balance. Check the fee breakdown in the dashboard before initiating a withdrawal.
